About the Event
We will explain how to create a balanced list of schools to which you can gain admission and also afford. We will reveal common myths and mistakes in list making. Students have a lot of choice when it comes to what kind of school they wish to attend. We will showcase how varied the college landscape is by covering some of the common types of institutions out there: large public universities, liberal arts colleges, STEM, minority serving institutions.
What you will learn:
- Help you feel more comfortable making a list of schools in 3 categories: Reach, Target, Likely. We will define these terms and describe the main criteria for creating your list.
- Minimize mistakes and maximize student success by addressing common myths in list-making.
- Maybe you don’t know where to start, or feel overwhelmed by the choices out there. We will showcase the varied landscape of institutions, so you can get more comfortable with the array of choices and ultimately refine and personalize your list. We will showcase these types of schools Liberal arts, STEM, HBCU, public flagship.
- Highlight two students’ personal stories: 1 from a liberal arts college and 1 from a STEM institute
